Rome, April 7, 2024: Extraordinary success for the Seventh Annual Bicinrosa “Pink Bikes” Ride promoted by the Breast Unit of the University General Hospital’s Bio-Medical Campus.
With the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of breast cancer prevention and supporting research against this disease, the event saw the participation of hundreds of citizens, who rode bicycles through the center of Rome, showing strong interest and sincere support for a cause that is so important for the health of all.
The Seventh Annual Ride had as “godmother,” or honorary chairman, Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duchess of Calabria and Palermo, who has already for several years, been the driving force for various initiatives in favor of women. Currently she is collaborating with the United Nations to work tirelessly for the raising of awareness of women’s rights and the necessity of guaranteeing them equal opportunities in every area of social, economic and political life.
During the gathering, the Director of the Breast Unit of University General Hospital’s Bio-Medical Campus, Vittorio Altomare, underlined once more the importance of (a healthy) lifestyle in preventing the disease, emphasizing the urgent need of practicing regular physical activity and of adopting healthy food choices.
Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies closed the event by underscoring the importance of investing in research and advanced diagnostic technology in anticipating and fighting cancer, highlighting the crucial role of young people in the promotion of a culture of active prevention: “It is an immense honor for me to be the godmother (honorary chairman) of such an important event. I would like to convey a message to all women: no one is ever alone. We are united in solidarity. Together, we can take on any challenge. We are here today to fight, and to raise awareness of the importance of the fight against breast cancer.”
Among others, Dr. Antonella Venditti, Director of Health of the University General Hospital’s Bio-Medical Campus; Anna Donati, President of Mobile Services of Rome; Francesca Racioppi, supervisor for coordination of participation in the World Health Organization; Beatrice Covassi, EU Parliamentarian; Maria Chiara Iannarelli regional council member of Lazio representing the Region’s President Francesco Rocca, participated in the event.
